NEW WORK

Naming, Logo and Marketing Material Concepts for Proposed Redevelopment.

My employer, Uniland Development, recently presented their redevelopment/repurposing proposal of the Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital site, which you can read more about on Buffalo Rising, and/or Business First.
I was pretty excited to work on this project from a marketing/design aspect for a number of reasons. But personally I lived around the corner from this site for 10 years or so not so long ago.  I biked, took walks (occasionally jogged) and rollerbladed thru this part of town so many times that it felt like my back yard.
It started with the naming. Chapin Place. We chose this name as it was the original name of Gates Circle before it was renamed in 1902. Chapin Place was first named after Col. Edward Payson Chapin, a Civil War soldier killed in action in Louisiana.
After we settled on a name, we needed to create a logo that would reflect the area.  The final logo is shown above. The inspiration for the mark is the Gates Circle fountain in front of the hospital. Below are some preliminary ideas that didn't make the cut.

We also created additional marketing collateral that would help promote the development. For this purpose, I created a rough tagline, billboard, homepage and brochure layout with a cohesive branded look that married the development to it's surroundings (the Olmsted park system in Buffalo).
